In all honesty, if you were walking to the train station (which has no barriers) to catch the last train that will get you to work on time and you suddenly realise that you have forgotten your travelcard, what would you do?

Desperately try and find a way not to pay the extortionate rates of the train company some other way…okay not much help but they are fleecing people way too much.

Haha and the only other way would be to avoid paying at all! I don’t mind paying (although I have a student pass so it is a bit cheaper) but it really is annoying when I forget it!

This is a difficult one in a way. Some might say find a way to pay extra next time, although you have already paid, if I am reading this properly. If the card is something you have so much paid on then you should make a reminder not to use one of the days of pay.

Hmm interesting idea. So you do your own compensation which may appear morally correct but certainly not according to the rail company!

I’m not really sure how the cards work. I would personally just go back and get the card and call to say I was going to be late, but that’s just me. π But for a worried student I would try to make them feel better by noting my original statement.

Haha π I would normally go back and get it but on some days I would not as the trains come after 30mins.

In all honesty if I didn’t think I would get caught I’d for sure just get on the train if I was desperate.

I am guessing that it is what most people do π

I’d call in late. Really. Yeah I might get a telling off, but I’d just politely explain my forgetfulness.

Splendid! Although what if you were really desperate, your boss does not like lateness and feeble excuses and you are up for a promotion?

Well that’s tough for me then. Honesty is the best policy, so that’s that.
I guess I’d have to buy bossy boo some choccie maybe…:D

I realised I once left my travel-card just as I was about to get on the train, and there was a chance I would be checked and I didn’t have the money to pay a fine so I had to leave and get my travel-card. I asked to go through the barrier exiting the station, but the woman there said I had to use my ticket so I had to use the return ticket which I needed two days later to get through. I collected my travel card and then later on asked the train company to let me have free pass on my returning journey. However there was no time crunch. If I lived near and the train was going to be a few minutes I MIGHT risk it (if there was a chance of the tickets being checked) but otherwise I’d either pull a sly or just buy a full price ticket and then ask for a refund if possible.

That is probably what I would do as well π
The worst times are if you are in a bad mood and simply cannot be bothered to go back and get it as you are too angry with yourself for forgetting the ticket.

hahahahah that time i forgot the ticket I cried for an hour and a man asked if he could help (i refused). Luckily my railcard has expired (today, actually) so I don’t need to think about that until I get a new one π

Aww! I feel the pain you must have gone through!
Haha woohoo for you!
Next year, I will be using public transport to go to university so yes, I am not looking forward to that!

Oh goodness, I hope the public transport doesn’t make you crack. You will have to put up with it for three years and the results could only be that you a) get used to there never being any seats and people being too loud or ‘up in your space’ to care OR b) find it more and more tedious and then go on a Great Western massacre because something in your brain has snapped. For some reason I hope it’s the former… Good luck with the rest of college and uni! π

Haha! I am hoping there is a third way where I get my own form of transport but that is a distant dream for now.
Thank you! π

And even more idealistically a chauffer so that you don’t have to put up with the slow, ignorant and generally awful drivers yourself. π
You’re welcome!

Oh yes! I have had a great idea! A chauffeur on a motorbike. Yes sounds weird but it may just convince my parents to allow me to have a bike!
Or a horse. Yes a horse would do just fine.

Beg for mercy with the train agent, and if that did not work, get up very close with someone in front of me and try to just slip on in. If that did not work, call in sick. π
