Favourite Movie Discussion Time!

Ok let me get straight to the point of this post. I want your favourite movies. As I currently have a bit of time on my hands, I have been researching which movies are worth watching. I am quite fussy like that as I cannot watch something that I simply stumble across without knowing the quality of the movie. Time is precious right? So if you are going to waste two hours watching a movie at night, you may as well watch a great one!

I don’t like silly movies, I don’t like horror movies (movies are for entertainment and I don’t enjoy being frightened) and I don’t like movies that I already know the ending to. That’s why I stay away from trailers and I absolutely hate spoilers! There are two types of movies I watch. Those that are action-packed and popular (X-Men, Fast and Furious, Rush Hour etc) and then there are those which are more thought-provoking. Ones which pop up in your mind after you have finished watching them and not simply because of something funny that a character said.

Blood Diamond, Shawshank Redemption, The Matrix, The Prestige, The Vow, Love Rosie, Fury, Boyhood and others. These are the kinds of movies I have particularly enjoyed. Films which make you think or provoke an emotional response and attachment to the characters. Two films I have just watched are: Saving Private Ryan and The Green Mile. I enjoyed them both greatly although I found it funny that they both began in the same way with a flashback. Normally I don’t like movies that do that as you always then know that the character didn’t die in the movie. However Saving Private Ryan has a nice (terribly sad!) twist to it at the end that leaves you thinking: ‘oh man!’ The Green Mile was an excellent exploration of guilt and quite a brilliant movie so for me, it was the better of the two although Saving Private Ryan was a lot more action-packed.

So now, let me know which movies you think I should watch and why. If you don’t have the time to tell me why then that’s okay. IMDB is there after all! Although sometimes its rating cannot be trusted.

Until Next Time

  1. Edward Scissorhands! Perks of Being a Wallflower! The Social Network! The King’s Speech! 500 Days of Summer! (I recommended that to an English teacher)

  2. So you like sort of “heavy” movies that you need to think more to understand it when you watch it. I suggest you watch The Imitation Game. It’s a biography genre movie starred Benedict Cumberbatch (correct me if I write the name wrong). I guess it is quite suitable for you. 😀
