Awaiting Freedom

I guess I can get away with mentioning the World Cup right? Well seeing as it is starting today (Go Brasil!) and it is the only competition that I become truly excited for, even if Brasil do not win. It’s a good thing that you can get caught up in the drama of the World Cup even if your team loses, especially for England fans. The funny thing is, pundits have been playing down England’s hopes but secretly and some even openly are hoping ever so hard that they shall be victorious. It isn’t going to happen.

In other news, the freedom that I am awaiting is the freedom from exams. As one teacher put it, revising since Easter has caused mental exhaustion and that can be a really tricky thing to handle. Nevertheless, by 3 in the afternoon tomorrow, I shall be free! Then I can revel in the joyous hot weather whilst riding my new bike without thinking about the key themes of ecologism, feminism, nationalism or multiculturalism. My favourite however, is ecologism (which apparently is not even the Word Press dictionary!) as even though it has some far-fetched ideas, a lot of it is quite reasonable and simple to understand.

So bring on summer, the World Cup, bike rides and fasting! Wait what? Fasting? Yes, along with a couple billion or so people, thirty days of fasting shall begin for me by the end of this month! It’s not that scary though as your body soon gets used to the hunger, however, the heat can be a bit of an issue at times, but more about fasting later!

Prediction: Brasil V Croatia at 9 (BST): 3-0

Until Next Time

A Worried Student

  1. “The funny thing is, pundits have been playing down England’s hopes but secretly and some even openly are hoping ever so hard that they shall be victorious. It isn’t going to happen.” The truth in this makes me laugh.

For me, my favourite part about the World Cup (which I only knew was today thanks to Google!) is definitely the patriotic spirit. England flags flying from people’s windows and cars; the face-paint on the local guys walking to the pub to watch the game. I’m pretty patriotic, so I love it.
